I write today to let you know about some problems I have been having with my diabetes.

Regular readers will know that I have had been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes a couple of years ago. I have been taking regular treatment like most sufferers as well as ensuring that my blood sugar levels remained constant and were not too high or too low. My doctor prescribed me with a number of drugs and, in particular a drug named Actos.

I read the leaflet that came with Actos and was pretty comfortable in taking the drug. The drug itself works by increasing your sensitivity to insulin. This, in turn, improves blood sugar levels. What I did not realize was that there are now a number of Actos side effects which have now become public.

Increase the Risk of Bladder Cancer

I only found out about these when I had heart attack 3 weeks ago. It turns out one of the side effects of this drug are that it can cause heart failure. It can also increase the risk of bladder cancer and even loss of vision.

Apparently the FDA has been so concerned about the drug, it has insisted that the drug company actually displays what is known as “black box” warning on the box. This is about as serious the FDA can get without an actual ban on the drug. This prompted me to look even further into what this drug was all about. The “Black Bow” warning sets out the risk of bladder cancer as well as congestive heart failure.

Regarding the threat of cancer, apparently if you have been using Actos for a long period of time, there is a 40% increase in the chances of you developing bladder cancer. Here a long period of time means a year or more.

Risk of Having Heart failure

I ran into a lawyer at the hospital, when I had my heart attack who advised I could sue the drug company for product liability. The company should have known that the drug could have caused me to have a heart attack. That is to say if the company had tested the drug more thoroughly , they would have found out that there is a risk of having heart failure.

It may have been the case that the drug company knew that there was a heart risk and decided not to tell anyone, as this may prevent sales of the drug. Apparently, according to the lawyer, this happens all the time.

The lawyer told me that he could file the lawsuit for my case relatively quickly as it was straightforward. He also told me that I could claim compensation for having had the heart attack, as well as for the cost of the same.
